Web & WordPress Localization Projects

ecommerce element localization

e-Commerce

Description

I joined force on a massive e-commerce project where hundreds of product titles and description needed to be localized into French.

If at first it doesn’t seem quite hard, it actually requires broad knowledge on various topics and being resourceful. On this project, I had learnt a lot about old American coins, guitar pedals, golf clubs, cymbals and other drum parts, banjo making, paintball weapon parts but also clothing-specific vocabulary (dying methods, materials, etc.).

Software web contents: online help files, user guides and FAQ

Description

I worked on various projects related to software localization from different clients.

The trickiest part is to understand what would happen without being able to test it on the software itself. That’s where screenshots come in handy. It helps us, translators, by providing context and a visual representation of the elements (menu, pop-up window, etc.) and valuable help to distinguish UI elements from the text.

As the content is online, it is important to check links or to know if they need to/ will be localized or not, and to harmonize article titles and anchor texts for example, otherwise, it would confuse the end user.

SaaS localization

SaaS localization

Description

I helped localize various SaaS (Software as a service) interfaces. That’s a challenge I like because you need to be creative to make the text fit in the allocated space, and it must also be practical and easy to understand for the end user.

Screenshots or the possibility to test the product are really useful. It helps with context and to avoid text overflow, saving time during the localization QA process.

WordPress themes and plugins

Description

I localized various themes and plugins for WordPress. This holds a special interest to me as I have a background experience as webmaster and developer (HTML/CSS), and I also am a WordPress user.

I also work on SEO optimization in addition to localization, finding the keywords your end users are more likely to use when looking for your company, your products or your services.
